Taj Mahal is considered to be the finest example of Mughal architecture, the Taj Mahal is a mausoleum built by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his favorite wife. The white domed marble mausoleum is the most well known aspect of the building.

Construction of the building began in 1632, employing thousands of artisans and craftsmen and was lead by a board of architects including Ustad Ahmad Lahauri who is generally considered to be the principal designer. In 1983, the Taj Mahal was added to the UNESCO World Heritage Site list as a jewel of Muslim art in India. With two to four million visitors annually, the Taj Mahal is definitely one of the most visited landmarks worldwide.

Getting to Taj Mahal

One can approach the Taj from three different directions: 
1. The Eastern entrance is often used by tourist groups arriving by coach from Fatehabad Road. 

2. The Southern entrance is from the shops, around the Taj
3. The Western entrance is ideal for those arriving by car or cycle-rickshaw from the Agra Fort.

Notes :

The Taj-Mahal has been profusely photographed, televised and written about. But nothing can match the experience of seeing it yourself. Sunrise and sunset at the Taj should not be missed. Travel light when you go to see the monument as the security is strict. Camera of course and water but heavy bag-packs or big bags will not be allowed. Remember the Taj is closed on Fridays.
